Fair Maids of Février
Vestured white and green, so gay,
Bloom in time for Candlemas-
Jewels of pearls on frosty grass.
Snowdrops praise Him, Son and Word,
At the Meeting of Our Lord!
Crocuses on slender stems,
Blossom forth like little gems,
Sunny gold, and sapphire blue-
Quiet beauty shining through.
Humble flowers; penitent-
Magnify Him, before Great Lent!
Palm and branches in the sun
Sing Hosanna, everyone!
But in a cold land, far away,
Silver, furry, catkins sway!
Pussywillows held with cheer,
Palm Sunday is nearly here!
